Theatre

The Sagemont School Theatre program is open to students in grades 6-12.  In class, students learn and participate in the art of improvisation and utilize that knowledge and experience to create characters in monologue and scene study.  The classes rely on students participating fully and enthusiasm and positive energy are required.

The Theatre program produces three plays a year (two high school and one middle school production) and any Sagemont student may participate either on stage or behind the scenes.  Also, a goal for next year is to create a student improv troupe which will meet one day a week.  Additionally, multiple Carbonell Award winning actress and Barry University Assistant Professor of Theatre Elena Maria Garcia has volunteered to assist with the improv troupe.  She has been a part of the creation of a number of improv troupes including the East Coast's first all-female improv troupe, Big Purse and Matching Shoes,  Separate Checks improv troupe and the nation's first Spanish speaking improv troupe Quien Sigue a Quien.

The International Thespian Society, an honor society for both middle and high school students, is available to all students who earn membership by supporting The Sagemont School's theatre program.  Students can support the program in a variety of ways including, but not limited to, performing on stage or behind the scenes in the technical aspects of the art form.
